Since forming in 1989, Mercury Rev has made a career out of exploring the fringes of artistic perception. Debut album ‘Yerself Is Steam’ was one of Pitchfork’s “best shoegaze albums of all time” and 1998’s breakthrough ‘Deserter’s Songs’ was named NME’s album of the year on its release. The band’s journey has been a tumultuous one full of setbacks, lineup changes, and heartbreak but major festival and television performances around the world have solidified their status as a rare group capable of straddling the line between mainstream appeal and progressive experimentation.
